Mixes

Tones, sounds and samples, layered your way

A mix is any number of tones and sounds playing together. Choose the pitch for each ear, and BYOBB sets the beat between them.

  • δ Deep sleep
  • θ Meditation
  • α Relaxation
  • β Focus
  • γ Alertness
  • Any frequency. Left ear, right ear and beat to a tenth of a hertz. Sliders move finely when dragged slowly and sweep the range when flicked.
  • Your own sounds. Add rain, music or any audio file, and choose when it starts and how often it repeats.
  • Built-in samples. Pink, brown and white noise that loop seamlessly. A singing bowl, tingsha bells, tuning forks, a bodhrán and a wood block... more to come.
  • Ready-made mixes such as Power Nap and Deep Sleep, to play as they are or make your own.

Gradual change

Let the beat move as the session goes on

Any tone can change its beat over time, in as many steps as you like. Hold alpha while you settle, drift into theta, then sink to delta and stay there.

Holds 10 Hz for 2 minutes, moves to 6 Hz over 10 minutes, then to 2 Hz over 10 minutes, then holds.

BYOBB writes your plan out in a sentence like that, so you always know where the session is heading.

Built for long listening

Plays all night, even under your music

  • Any length. Twenty minutes, eight hours, or until you stop it, ending with a gentle fade.
  • Plays alongside other apps. Keep your podcast or music playing and let BYOBB sit underneath.
  • Control it from anywhere: the lock screen, the notification, Bluetooth headphones and car buttons.
  • Do Not Disturb and screen-on can switch on for each mix, so alarms still reach you and nothing else does.
  • Easy on the battery. Audio rests when nothing has played for a couple of minutes.

Playlists

One mix flows into the next

Line mixes up the way a DJ would: thirty minutes of meditation leading into eight hours of sleep tones, each crossfading into the next on time.

Use the same mix as often as you like, skip forward and back from your headphones, and repeat the whole list if you wish.

Isochronic tones

Listen on a speaker, too

Binaural beats need headphones, because each ear hears its own pitch. An isochronic tone pulses one pitch on and off at the beat instead, so it works the same in both ears and from any speaker.

Switch any tone between binaural and isochronic with one tap, and mix both kinds freely.

In your own voice

Add the words you want to hear

Record a short statement right in the app (a goal, an affirmation, a reminder to breathe) and lay it over your tones.

Have it play once, a few times, or every thirty seconds for the whole session. Your recordings stay on your phone.

Lights out

Darken the screen and tune out

One tap turns the screen black. A timer plays with the mix's name.

  • Slide up or down to dim the words as low as you like.
  • Slide left to bring back a faint glow of the card's colors; slide right for pure black again.

Appearance

Every mix can have its own look

Each card can take colors from the notes it plays, C red through to B violet, or from a color you choose.

Add a slow, glowing pattern such as Aurora, Nebula or Fireflies, or a photo or album art of your own. Each band's color and symbol shows at a glance.

Widgets

Your favorite mix, one tap away

On Android, put any mix or playlist on your home screen in three sizes, each tinted in that mix's colors. Tap to start it, tap again to stop.

Arrange your library in any order with a drag handle, so the mixes you play most sit at the top.

Back up and restore

Take your whole library with you

Save every mix, playlist, setting and sound file into a single file. Restore it on the same phone or a new one, adding to what's there or replacing it.

Your library is yours: keep the file wherever you like.
